Brett Tennyson teaches in-home piano lessons for children, teens and adults across the southwest Twin Cities. His background in music performance and elementary education informs an approach built around clear explanations and each student’s needs. An active performer and songwriter with a love of folk, jazz and rock, Brett helps students develop piano skills while working toward music they enjoy.
A performer and songwriter with a personal approach to teaching
Brett studied music performance and elementary education during five years at North Central University in Minneapolis. His performing experience includes jazz combos, wedding bands and a Steely Dan cover group. As lead vocalist and primary songwriter for PSYPL, he brings an active musician’s perspective to his teaching, with particular interests in folk, jazz, rock and jazz fusion.
In lessons, Brett adapts his explanations to the student rather than expecting one approach to work for everyone. He breaks technique and music theory into manageable steps, helping students understand what they are playing and how to practice it. Whether someone is beginning piano or developing existing skills, his aim is to build confidence and help them work toward their musical interests.

A songwriter at the piano
Brett’s experience as a songwriter and performer brings another perspective to piano lessons. Students interested in chords, songwriting or how songs are put together can explore those interests alongside their piano skills.

Brett comes to your piano
Brett offers in-home piano lessons in Edina, Minneapolis, Bloomington, Richfield and St. Louis Park. Students learn on the instrument they use for practice, with a regular weekly time arranged around your address and Brett’s availability.
There is no travel fee for in-home lessons within our service area, and lesson prices are the same as at our Edina studio. Studio lessons are taught by Soroush at 7300 Gallagher Drive. Your first conversation is with Soroush, who aims to respond within 24 hours. Share the student’s age, musical interests, goals, preferred lesson setting and availability, along with anything that helps them feel comfortable learning. We consider what you share when recommending a suitable teacher, whether Brett or another member of our team.
After the free 30-minute trial, Soroush follows up privately to hear how the lesson went and whether the student felt comfortable with their teacher. There is no obligation to continue, and we can arrange another trial lesson with a different teacher to explore a better fit.
Support continues once weekly lessons begin. Soroush stays in touch, and you can contact him whenever you have questions or would like to explore a different teaching approach.
