Lessons are built around each student’s interests, experience and pace. We set manageable goals and help younger students’ parents understand what to practice and how to support learning at home. No musical background is needed.
Young beginners, ages 3 to 7
Readiness varies from child to child. For ages three and four, we choose teachers experienced with younger beginners. Playful activities introduce rhythm, sounds and keyboard patterns, leading toward simple songs at the child’s pace. The free trial gives families a chance to meet the teacher and explore whether now is a good time to begin.
Elementary and middle school
Beginners and continuing students build reading, rhythm and technique through music they enjoy. Clear weekly practice goals help them become more independent. We arrange a regular lesson time with your family and ask for advance notice of school events or schedule changes.
High school students
High-schoolers come to us for one of three reasons. Some want to keep piano going through a heavy course load. Some are preparing for auditions or competitions. Some are picking it back up after stopping years ago. Lesson length flexes around the season. In the run-up to an audition, a 45- or 60-minute lesson is often the right call, at the studio or at home.
Adults

Pop, film and contemporary
Chord charts, playing by ear and the songs a student actually wants to sit down and play. For a lot of teenagers this is what keeps them at the instrument long enough to get good.

Is there an extra charge for coming to my house?
No. In-home and studio lessons are the same price: $50 for 30 minutes, $70 for 45 and $90 for an hour.
Do you teach jazz or pop as well as classical?
Yes. Between them our teachers cover classical, jazz, folk, R&B, rock and pop. Which styles a student works on depends on their interests and their teacher’s experience, and the direction can change later without changing schools.
Can we switch between in-home and studio lessons?
Yes, with some notice. Tell your teacher before you want the change rather than on the day: studio lessons are with Soroush, and studio time is limited at some hours. Give us a little warning and we will do our best to make it work.
Can lessons work around the Minneapolis Public Schools calendar?
Weekly lesson times are arranged with each family’s schedule in mind, and we encourage families to tell us early when school events or calendar changes may affect a lesson. Rescheduling depends on teacher availability and follows our cancellation and makeup policy.
What if I need to cancel a lesson?
We understand that plans change. With at least 24 hours’ notice, we can offer a makeup lesson, subject to availability, or a credit toward the following month’s invoice. Lessons canceled with less notice are normally charged, since that time is reserved for you and can be difficult to fill. Your teacher may choose to waive the charge for a first-time cancellation or an unexpected emergency. We support their discretion while respecting their time. Please let us know as soon as you can.
Do we need a real piano to start?
You do not need an acoustic piano to begin. In-home lessons require a suitable keyboard or piano; if you do not have one, you can start with a trial at our Edina studio. For ongoing learning we recommend a digital piano with 88 full-size, fully weighted keys, and a keyboard with at least 61 full-size, touch-sensitive keys is fine for the early stages. Send us the model name or a photo of what you already have and we will help you assess it.
What ages and skill levels do you teach?
Ages three and up, with no upper age limit: young beginners, teenagers, adults learning for the first time and players coming back after years away. We will help you find a teacher suited to the student’s experience, interests and goals.
How does the free trial lesson work?
Your free 30-minute trial lets you meet your teacher, try making music and discuss your goals. The school pays the teacher in full; there is no cost or obligation for you. Soroush follows up privately afterward, and we can arrange another trial lesson with a different teacher to explore a better fit.
How does payment work?
You will receive one invoice at the beginning of each month for that month’s scheduled lessons, due before the first lesson of the month. We usually send payment requests through Zelle or Venmo, and other options are available, including an emailed invoice you can pay by card.
Do students have opportunities to perform?
Yes. Our annual student recital gives children and adults a chance to share their music and celebrate their progress in front of a friendly audience. Taking part is encouraged, never required.
